Seven years ago Jenny and I outgrew our small two bedroom home at 44th and Randolph in
Lincoln, Nebraska and began to research custom home builders. We wanted a larger, more
energy efficient, three bedroom home.  I asked a friend of mine, Dave Noecker, a Realtor with

Home Realty,
and a property manager for CIP, (Commercial Investment Properties) what he
thought.  Dave pointed us to a small custom home building company, owned by Jerry Maher,
called
Mahris Custom Homes.

What was unique about Jerry's company is that he designed, constructed and completed the
homes himself.  Jerry likes to meet with the home owner often, and works out the details with
them on a personal level.  Jerry does not mass produce houses, rather, custom builds one
home at a time.

With Jerry swinging the hammer, and in close contact with the client, we met and visited with
him at a home he was building.  We discussed 2x6 exterior walls, attic insulation of R 50,
exterior walls of plywood or wafer board, (not black jack or foam), sub flooring that was glued,
screwed, and tongue and grooved, exterior siding made of cement board, "low e" argon gas
filled windows, dovetail cabinetry, insulated interior walls, six panel, oak solid core interior
doors, 5 inch thick concrete, a long warranty and so on.  Jerry knew exactly what we wanted
and built our house.

Fast forward seven years.  Jerry Maher still owns
Mahris Custom Homes.  He is still swinging
a hammer.  He continues to have a close relationship with each customer.  Jerry is hands on
and builds only a handful of homes each year.  The only thing different is that he now has a
Realtor / Business manager, Renee Holscher.  We love the house he built for us and in seven
years we have never had a complaint or a concern.
