| Letter from Claire: Many of you know me, but for those who don’t, my name is Claire Munger and I am 10 years old. I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes on March 11, 2007. Not how I wanted to spend my spring break, in the hospital. Having diabetes is not very fun, but at least I can manage it by checking my blood sugar and wearing an insulin pump. Last year I was still taking shots however, about 3 months ago I got an insulin pump which means I don’t have to take shots anymore!! But I still have to check my blood sugar about 7-10 times a day. I’m not just able to eat whatever I want whenever I want like most people can do. My pancreas does not produce the hormone insulin like it should. Therefore, I have learned to count carbohydrates and calculate how much insulin my body needs. I am asking that you join me in my second annual Walk To Cure Diabetes. It would be awesome to find a cure in my lifetime. I would like you to join my team “Claire’s Crew” The walk is on Sunday, September 28, 2008 @ Haymarket Park, Lincoln NE. Check in is at 1:00 pm and the walk begins at 2:00 pm. SAVE THE DATE!!!! If you are able to walk, you will need to register as a walker.
